The second project of my Spring 2015 TXA316L course was to design and construct a pair of denim jeans.

Inspiration
As a Sherlock Holmes fanatic, I found a perfect opportunity to include my love of the BBC rendition in this project. My main inspiration came from the infamous flocked wallpaper that decorates Sherlock's flat. In an episode, a bored Sherlock was found shooting at a yellow spray-painted smiley face that he’d created on the wall. In addition, a skull painting hangs in the corner. I decided to integrate the wallpaper design, smiley face, and skull into my jeans.

Construction
I began with a black light/medium-weight stretch denim, 70% cotton, 28% polyester, 2% spandex. I recreated the wallpaper pattern and it was turned into a stamp through an online rubber stamp printer. Using professional metallic silver fabric paint, I pressed my custom stamp across my fabric pieces. It was a laborous process, but well worth the end result.
